Dan Schimmel, BFA (1989) University of California, Berkeley, MA (1996) and MFA (1997) University of Iowa, is an artist based in Philadelphia and born in Columbia, Missouri. He has exhbited work at the Delaware Art Museum, Susquehanna Art Museum, Delaware Center for Contemporary Art, Allentown Art Museum and State Museum of Pennsylvania. He has had five solo exhibitions. For ten years he was Director and Curator of Exhibitions at the Esther Klein Gallery and from 2010-2013 he was the founding Director of Breadboard, an award-winning arts, science and technology program at the University City Science Center.
Schimmel lives in an 1880’s farmhouse with his partner Mimi Sheller and two daughters. His backyard studio is surrounded by extensive woodland and gardens that he grows and gathers materials and inspiration from as part of his art practice.
